Allergy & Sinus
Ear, Nose, and Throat Associates is now accepting new patients to the Sinus and Allergy Care Center. The care center is designed to provide both knowledgeable physicians and support staff along with the latest in medical and surgical technology available for the treatment of sinus and allergy disorders.
The Ear, Nose and Throat Sinus and Allergy Care Center offers a full range of allergy testing and treatment services. Testing can be arranged after a consultation with one of our physicians. Skin testing is performed by the “endpoint titration” method which is often more sensitive in detecting allergens and allows for allergy desensitization to begin at a much higher and safer level.
Testing with this detailed method usually takes 2 to 3 hours. In very young children, patients with severe asthma or those patients on certain medications in vitro (blood) testing may be recommended.
The most effective way to treat allergy is to determine which allergen you are sensitive to and eliminate it from your environment. Unfortunately many people are affected by multiple allergens or irritants like dust or mold which are impossible to avoid. Immunotherapy works by providing the patient with small quantities of allergens (allergy shot) typically in 1 to 4 week intervals.
This allows the body to become “desensitized” to a specific allergen(s) and may reduce or eliminate the need for allergy medications or extreme changes in one's environment.
Sinus surgery can be a highly effective alternative when medical therapy alone is unsuccessful. Typically, sinus surgery is performed in those patients with significant nasal obstruction and/or chronic or recurring infection.
Procedures are generally performed endoscopically (through the nostrils) and can be done as an outpatient. In most cases, uncomfortable nasal packing can be avoided. The Ear, Nose and Throat Sinus surgery center is the only local center capable of performing stereotactic sinus surgery which improves the safety and efficacy of sinus procedures.
