Not a huge fan of going in and getting a monthly allergy shot? Don’t worry—we have just the thing for you: sublingual immunotherapy, better known as Allergy Drops.
Allergy Drops are an alternative to treating your allergies without the use of injections. Unlike regular allergy shots, Allergy Drops allow patients to stay home to administer their allergy-preventative droplets instead of going into the doctor’s office. Thus, allowing for a reduction in the number of office visits and co-pays!
What are the Benefits of Allergy Drops?
- The dose is delivered under the tongue instead of an injection
- Allergy Drops can be more affordable than allergy shots for most patients
- Generally cheaper than shots
- They’re easy to use on children
- Can be administered at home rather than in a medical office
- Significantly reduces allergy symptoms
- Reduces the need for allergy & asthma medications
- Fewer side effects than other alternatives to injections
Cost of Allergy Drops
Unfortunately, as of right now, SLIT is not covered by most insurance companies; however, the cost of SLIT therapy is comparable to the co-pays of coming into the office for traditional injections weekly. You can purchase a 45-day supply for $150 or purchase three 45-day supplies in bulk for $400, saving $50. If you have any further questions, please call our office.
What Allergy Drops Help With?
Based on clinical trials, studies have shown that drops are effective at reducing or preventing eczema, asthma and rhinitis caused by:
- Dust mites
- Ragweed
- Different types of grasses
- Molds
- Tree pollen
- Cat dander
Potential Risks
Although it is rare, there are possible adverse reactions than can occur from taking Allergy Drops. One of the potential allergic reactions is known as Anaphylaxis. This is also the same potential risk that can occur from taking traditional allergy injections.
Anaphylaxis symptoms are as follows:
- Body rash or hives
- Itching/irritation in the throat or body
- Dizziness or feeling lightheaded

- Shortness of breath or wheezing
If this happens, stop taking the allergy droplets and contact your doctor immediately.
